Samsung Galaxy S24 series has introduced a range of AI-powered features to enhance the user experience. While initially exclusive to the new phones, owners of select 2023 flagship devices can look forward to receiving these new Galaxy AI features through the One UI 6.1 update in the first half of 2024.
The devices included in this update are the Galaxy S23, S23 FE, Z Fold 5, Z Flip 5, and Tab S9. Despite being eligible for the One UI 6.1 update, the 2022 devices, including the Galaxy S22 series, have been omitted from the initial rollout. Samsung has not provided a clear explanation for this decision, with Patrick Chomet, Samsung’s Head of Customer Experience, mentioning only that they are "limiting" the initial rollout to last-gen devices "for now."
This exclusion leaves Galaxy S22 owners uncertain about whether they will eventually receive the new AI features. The Galaxy S23 FE, which shares the same chipset as the S22 in some regions, is part of the rollout, adding to the confusion among S22 owners. While there is a possibility that S22 owners may receive the Galaxy AI features in the future, Samsung has not provided a definite timeline or guarantee.
The upcoming Galaxy AI features include:
1. Circle to Search: Users can draw a circle around an object or text on the screen to instantly learn more about it.
2. Live Translation: Real-time translation of spoken and written content, both online and offline, facilitating communication in different languages and aiding in understanding signs, menus, and documents while abroad.
3. Chat Assistant: Automatic translation of messages during chats without the need to switch between languages.
4. Note Assistant: Summarization and organization of notes for easier review and retrieval.
5. Voice Recording Assistant: Conversion of voice recordings into text with speaker identification, providing transcripts, translation, and summarization of key points.
The absence of a concrete timeline or guarantee for the Galaxy S22 series adds uncertainty for owners, leaving them in limbo regarding the potential full utilization of their devices with the new Galaxy AI features.
