HMD Global Ditches Nokia Brand for Upcoming Phones

In a significant departure from its traditional branding, HMD Global has made a bold announcement about its upcoming line of devices, revealing a strategic move away from the iconic Nokia brand. This signals a potential shift in the landscape of Nokia Mobile smartphones.

HMD Global, the messenger of this news, has not only declared its intention to introduce devices without the Nokia branding but has also tantalized consumers with a glimpse of its diverse product portfolio. The teased offerings include smartphones, tablets, and wireless earbuds, sparking speculation that the debut of HMD-branded smartphones might be showcased at the upcoming MWC Barcelona event from February 26-29.

Although HMD's official website still proudly claims the company as the "Makers of Nokia phones," it hints at the possibility of future Nokia-branded feature phones.

HMD is gearing up to reveal a lineup of new phones promising resilience, enjoyment, security, speed, and affordability. As a part of this transition, existing Nokia-branded smartphones and tablets are being offered at discounted prices until stocks last.

Meanwhile, Nokia Corporation continues to assert its global leadership in network equipment and remains a key patent licensor in the mobile technology sector. With an extensive portfolio of over 6,000 patent families crucial to advancing 5G technology, Nokia plays a pivotal role in shaping the future of mobile communication.

In a recent development, Nokia concluded a prolonged patent infringement dispute with Oppo and OnePlus, resulting in the lifting of restrictions on these Chinese brands in certain European markets, including Germany. The resolution involves a cross-licensing 5G patent agreement, allowing Oppo and OnePlus to operate in previously restricted markets. Oppo will be making royalty payments to Nokia, including catch-up payments to cover periods of non-payment, bringing an end to the legal battle and paving the way for collaboration in the evolving landscape of mobile technology.
