Experts have named this type of ant 'Leptinella voldemort' after the character Lord Voldemort in the Harry Porter series.
Dr Mark Wong of the University of Western Australia and Jane McRae of Bennelongia Environmental Consultants have presented details of the new species in a paper published in the journal Zoo Keys.

The researchers made the discovery while studying underground animals in the arid Pilbara region of Australia. The researchers observed only two ants of this species at the site.

L. voldemort is quite different from other ant species due to its extremely thin body and long and thin legs and antennae.
