HMD Global, the company known for producing Nokia-branded smartphones for the past seven years, is set to introduce a line of devices under its own HMD brand. Formed in 2016 following Microsoft's ten-year rights sale of the Nokia brand, HMD Global marked its entry into the smartphone market with the Nokia 6 in 2017.
This shift signifies a potential departure from Nokia-branded smartphones. HMD Global is currently offering glimpses of its upcoming product portfolio, providing hints about the future of HMD phones.
One noticeable change is the transition in the X service user ID and website address. The inaugural HMD-branded smartphone is anticipated to make its debut at the Mobile World Congress (MWC) 2024 event in Barcelona.
According to HMD's official website, the company is not only continuing its production of Nokia smartphones and dumbphones but is also introducing an original HMD brand and collaborating on new phone projects.
The website states, "We’re still makers of Nokia smartphones and Nokia dumbphones, but we’re getting warmed up to bring you even more, including original HMD devices, and phones from all-new partnerships."
The upcoming portfolio is set to encompass a range of devices, including smartphones, tablets, and feature phones. Stay tuned for HMD's exciting developments in the mobile device landscape.
