Meta Launches 'Today Topics' on Threads App for Real-Time Engagement

Tech giant Meta is stepping up its game in the run-up to the US elections, gearing up to compete with its arch-rival X (formerly known as Twitter). In a surprising turn of events, Meta, which had previously expressed reluctance towards political content recommendations, has now introduced a new test feature for its Threads app.

The newly unveiled feature, named "Today's Topics," seems to be Meta's response to the growing demand for real-time discussions on trending issues. The algorithm powering Today's Topics will consider various signals, including the volume of discussions and user engagement, to determine the relevance of each topic. Meta's dedicated team of content specialists will also ensure that the listed topics adhere to community guidelines and integrity standards, eliminating duplicates and misleading content.

Users will have the option to flag problematic content, although immediate moderation may not occur. However, Meta assures that political content will not be suppressed unless it violates community guidelines.
