In a significant move, social media company X, owned by Elon Musk, is actively recruiting 100 content moderators for its upcoming office in Austin, Texas. This initiative is part of the establishment of a "Trust and Safety center of excellence," dedicated to combating child abuse content.
X aims to complete this hiring process by the end of the year, pending the identification of suitable candidates.
Joe Benarroch, X's head of business operations, stated that the team for the Austin office is currently under construction, emphasizing the importance of finding the right talent to meet the year-end goal. This announcement precedes a crucial U.S. Senate hearing on January 31, addressing online child sexual exploitation, where X Chief Executive Linda Yaccarino is scheduled to testify alongside CEOs from Meta Platforms, Snap, TikTok, and Discord.
Since Elon Musk's acquisition of X in 2022 (formerly known as Twitter), the company has faced criticism for Musk's controversial posts and his efforts to revamp content moderation policies.
In a blog post, X revealed that it suspended 12.4 million accounts in the previous year for violating rules against child sexual exploitation, a significant increase from the 2.3 million account suspensions in 2022.
The newly established Austin center will not only focus on combating child abuse content but also contribute to addressing various forms of harmful content, reinforcing X's commitment to online safety.
