Apple Inc's CEO announced on Wednesday that the company will explore the potential of establishing a manufacturing facility in Indonesia, following a meeting with President Joko Widodo.
Tim Cook arrived in Jakarta on Tuesday, following a visit to Vietnam, and engaged in discussions with President Widodo, popularly known as Jokowi. Cook also revealed plans to inaugurate an academy for Apple developers on the island of Bali.
"We discussed the president's interest in seeing manufacturing operations within the country, and it's something we will consider," Cook informed reporters after the meeting.
While Apple currently conducts much of its crucial manufacturing for iPads, AirPods, and Apple Watches in Vietnam, suppliers for MacBooks are also investing heavily in the country.
Despite lacking manufacturing facilities in Indonesia, Apple has already established four Apple Developer Academies within the nation.
Indonesia boasts a sizable and tech-savvy population, positioning itself as a prime target market for investments in technology-related ventures.
